Is Bangalore really safe for WOMEN?

Bangalore, the IT capital of India also called as The Silicon Valley attracted many immigrants to occupy the beautiful Garden city. The Garden city is no more called so as the city has changed drastically in every aspect. Bangalore was known to be calm, protective, healthy, nature friendly etc. now after hearing to Mr. Franklin in TOI meet on Saturday – Mar-18th 2013, shocked to hear that Bangalore is the 2nd more unsafe cities in India. Though I hear many violent activities across the city, I never thought it would cross the limits when compared to other cities in India. We can say that present Bangalore is unsafe, not protective, violent, unhealthy, most polluted city in India.

Every day I watch news and I feel bad about it, because there will be at-least one or two rape cases or murder cases or suicide cases which has become pretty common in the city. Delhi gang rape case made the sound but there are many such cases which are still hidden and are not known to the common public. I would like to share two such cases which was shown on television where girls are been attacked in the city.

A girl stabbed by a man
 1. A 15 year old school going girl, yet to take her 10th exams was stabbed with the knife on her neck forcing her to love him even if she doesn't want to. This was held in Hanumantha Nagar Bangalore. Victim’s parents had filed a complaint before this incident had occurred. The person released on bail and committed this activity. The girl was attacked because she did not accepted proposal. Even police was helpless in this case. This shows how protected a girl is in this society.

Teenagers getting harassed

2. There was another case in the vicinity of the same area where a teenage girl was harassed by few men in the locality. This girl refused to accept the proposal from a boy; this made him to go violent and with his few friends, he rushed into her house when she was alone. They harassed her, but she could escape from the place as the neighbors were pretty closely located.

I can feel the fear factor in the city which is increasing day by day. Rapes and murders are common these days. But few modern youths have some awareness to protect them but it is not reaching to the entire youth segment. People are fed-up waiting for everything from the government and shouting their lungs out against them. They want some revolution in the system which politicians are not able to provide. They are fighting every day within themselves for everything more than a normal man fight.

We should support, protect, and change all by ourselves. Politicians will blame us for electing them as our leaders. So we have to take strong steps to make it strong and effective. Let the entire citizen come out of their comfort zone and protest against the evilness in our society. The Anna’s moment should repeat for this too. I have listed few things that we can inculcate in our society to be safe and protected.
  • Please try to be good with everyone in all terms even if they are bad and do not try to hurt others ego or feelings.
  • Be confident and carry yourself in a better way that nobody will try to harass you.
  • Do not carry any self protection materials with you, it might back fire you.
  • Dress really won’t matter wear what you wish, try to be in a group rather than being alone.
  • Have some safety helpline numbers with you, close boyfriends and 3-4 police personal numbers which might help you any time.
  • If any single person is trying to attack you, do not run but deal with him brilliantly, but if it’s a gang of guys then it’s good to escape by not thinking twice, and ring any of your friends or police immediately.
  • If you are vexed from your husband don’t hesitate to slap him and go against him, and it’s again depends on the situation and how the person is.
  • For kids, be careful with the people around, don’t believe anyone outsider, even your teacher if its “sir”

I want to stress on first point which I have mentioned above. The main reasons for every crime that happen in the city are anger, frustration, grudge, dissatisfaction, hatred. As far as I heard, most of the crimes are committed by the known person to the victim than a third person. So I suggest always being far from these things that definitely keep you safe and protective. Second thing is do not believe what others influence you; they might lead you to a wrong path and finally harass you in everything.

Women is being harassed

Friends these are few tips. Advises will be given by every person, but nobody implement them and many times even advises won’t really help people, because the points which is mentioned above are written based on my point of thinking, the thinking might vary from person to person based on their experience or deep study.

After attending the conference arranged by Indiblogger.com, I was moved towards it. It’s a nice initiative that TOI has taken but the movement is nil. People are not even aware of what you are doing so far. Having an extra edition with women’s problem won’t be helpful rather than solving these problems might help the society a lot to improvise on it. Build a movement across the country; SOCIAL MEDIA+YOUTH are always available to you 24/7 and all days. Reach out to many IT companies to start this revolution. And just talking, meeting, agitating, seminars, workshops won’t work the action to be taken.

Movement started after Delhi Gang Rape
Being a young guy I want to stand against this violence. Please don’t be against all male gender around you, everyone are not bad, only few of them in the society are anti-social who act like this. Let all of us come together and make this happen. I would end with couple of quotations below; by quoting these we can say that Bangalore is rapidly heading towards the unsafe side in the society.

“Violence against women is an appalling human rights violation. But it is not inevitable. We can put a stop to this.”-- Nicole Kidman

“The main goal of the future is to stop violence. The world is addicted to it.” -- Bill Cosby

“Sexual, racial, gender violence and other forms of discrimination and violence in a culture cannot be eliminated without changing culture.” -- Charlotte Bunch

Please write to me your thoughts that might add on to start off a new revolution.

Thank you.
